Below is a collection of Spotify playlists that I have spent varying amounts of time compiling for the listening pleasure of myself and others. These musical 'essays' are an attempt to compile different feelings I've gotten while going through daily life in the form of music and an attempt for you, the listener, to experience something you don't usually get to feel.
On the aspect of how I create these playlists, the process begins with an idea, either created by a certain song or by something I see or feel in everyday life. After a theme forms, the task of finding songs that interact and portray said idea/feeling is put into place. All of the included collections are constantly being added to and updated, so please feel free to follow and look back when you get the chance.
Many of these playlists are made to evoke and inject a certain emotion or feeling into the listeners mind, so please sit back and enjoy. If you do not have Spotify, fear not, I have attached a YouTube playlist link to all of the collections as they are shown in order for everyone to enjoy. Also, this probably doesn't need to be said but I'll do it anyway, these are just Spotify playlists and almost everyone has some of their own. I am not by any means trying to make the following seem more serious than they actually are or more importantly better than others. By calling them 'essays' I thought I would add a different spin to the normal idea of just a playlist in order to add a sense of art and creativity to it. Or, and this is probably the real reason, I did all of this so I had a way of sharing goofy Spotify playlists with all of you that would fit my style of displaying and publishing. Who knows. Nevertheless, I hope you all enjoy.
If you have any future playlist ideas please let me know and I shall look into them, I love anything and everything new. Adding onto that, if you have a playlist you have made PLEASE send it to me as I love new music and experiencing other peoples mindsets within music.
Thank you for reading.
2am - on contemplation
A playlist created with the idea of long thought sessions. Like the title entails, this was inspired by those long late night car rides you sometimes find yourself on, thinking about anything and everything. Press play, sit back, think, and let it cascade upon the sky. Alternative playlist link Thank you for listening.
Kenopsia - on emptiness
'Kenopsia' - The eerie, forlorn atmosphere of a place that's usually bustling with people but is now abandoned and quiet—a school hallway in the evening, an unlit office on a weekend, vacant fairgrounds—an emotional afterimage that makes it seem not just empty but hyper-empty, with a total population in the negative. Created in order to encapsulate this idea in the form of music, I wanted to make the listener feel as if they were in one of the listed spaces, possibly even transporting their consciousness there while listening. In the end, we all lay alone, biding our time. Alternative playlist link Thank you for listening.
Open tO all - oN nothingness
After listening to the song 'A Feast of Friends' by Jim Morrison, I immediately wanted to seek out more pieces with the sound it held. I decided on a theme encapsulating the sense of flowing, or floating through nothing. This playlist was created in order to let the listener float through their own space and wipe their slate clean. It holds total nothingness, allowing you to open yourself and take you where you need to go. Link To Be Added Thank you for listening.
Seek Refuge in the calm - on Relaxation
Created for your daily dose of relaxation and concentration on self. Everyone needs a moment to sit back and forget everything, focusing on the now and nothing else. If you're like me you cant particularly 'meditate' without music playing, but pieces with lyrics make my mind wander into places I don't want it to go. With the help of this playlist you can let your mind be open and empty, putting yourself in the now for the duration of your listen. While this plays, don't fear what you cant see and let it flow over you. Alternative playlist link Thank you for listening.
Homework - on focus
This playlist is one that doesn't very much have a distinct theme, but more a collection of pieces I have found help me focus the most. If I were to define the genre it would be vapor-wave or lo-fi, so if you're into that new age stuff, this is a playlist for you. Kick back, press play, open up your notes and study away. Better to start now rather than later, is what I always say. Alternative playlist link Thank you for listening.
With your head high - On Confidence
The sole intention of this playlist was to walk 'with your head high'. This collection was created in order to help the listeners head up with a smile on their face while doing and going to everyday activities, in preparation for anything and everything the day will bring you. Plug your headphones in, put the location you need to venture to on your phone and press that play button. Be your own power, there's no need for others. Alternative playlist link Thank you for listening.
Madness - on The Social Theory
This is not like the others but I decided to include it anyway, as it is a variety of songs that I have tried to carefully choose over the past few months. Of course this idea and the music included is a bit childish, but we all need a sense of that in our lives. If you're like me, you need a set of tunes for going out on the weekends, or one that you listen to while trying to get energized for an occasion or action. When you're in the mood for anger and energy, for fight for flight, this is your playlist. Alternative playlist link Thank you for listening.
